Isabella Foote
My name is Isabella, I'm 13 years old and I have been travelling with my parents since I was 7. I was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 5 years ago while I was visiting family in Queensland. I was lucky and got to go on an Insulin Pump straight away while I was in Qld.
I'm in year 7 at the moment, I love reading, Organising, baking and planning. I'm also a vegetarian and have been a vegan before as well. I love animals and I've had lots of different animals, and I would love to get a pug or a Dachshund. I also love listening to lots of different types of music and making new music. I love the vampire diaries and Gossip girl, they are my favourite tv shows and I love technology and use it everyday for school, home and Social Media

As I sit and write, today would have been my parents 50th wedding anniversary, heart breakingly I lost my mother in December last year, at this time our family was also identified as carriers of the CDH1 Gene. Having previously lost a sister at the age of 31 it is with the utmost respect and fortune that I do not have this gene. However being faced with your own mortality was and is very confronting. I now have an innate desire to make precious memories with my family that push the limits of ordinary and make them extraordinary. My baby sister Mary unfortunately is a carrier of CDH1 and has undergone a total gastrectomy, you can follow her journey on www.mummywithnotummy.com
I love my family very much. Chris, my husband, Bella, my 13 year old daughter and I will be undertaking this expedition together. Bella is my youngest daughter and nearly 5 years ago when on holiday on the gold Coast, Bella was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Fortunately Bella was able to go onto an infusion pump within 48hrs of diagnosis. Our learning curb was very steep and as we do not have a family history of diabetes, and at the time this was unimaginable. Our T1D journey continues everyday. Bella being T1D may present some challenges on the trail, but with thoughtful and planned management we will show her she can achieve what ever her heart desires, that being a diabetic is not a form of limitation. I am touched by her toughness to adapt to change and tickled pink that I get to share her awesome sense of humour though some crazy hypo personalities. Though sharing our story we hope to inspire other teenage diabetics to not feel isolated and to be open when doing what you need to do to take care of your diabetic needs.
I want to shout out to my eldest daughter Jordanna, who has made me a very proud grandmother and continues to amaze me with her strength and drive to improve, along with her partner in crime JK they have and will continue to achieve great things. Jordanna may join us at christmas time on the trail. (No pressure LOL)

Te Araroa is a huge task for the Foote Family because we
have always done the trips in vehicles in 4x4 or on motorbikes, this time we are tramping
(New Zealand Term for Hiking) it very different being self-supporting in a
vehicle and being self-supporting on foot….if all goes pear shape you can self-evacuate
in the vehicle…..on foot….it depends on the issue, weather, and distance.
We have just order a brand new Medtronic 640g Insulin Pump for Bella. Bella will be blogging on the pump during the trip, giving pros and cons and the devices as she uses the pump day to day….the 640g is a new pump and we have picked it as it has the 3ml reservoir and is water proof to 3.5 metres for 24 hours…we will be putting that to the test….with river crossing …stay tuned …… this pump will be tested.
